Troubleshooting Hearing Aids
Dr Clive discusses the two most common problems with hearing aids and how you might fix them.
We hope this gives you the first steps to check your hearing aid if it is not working satisfactorily.
simple things you can do at home to see if you can fix it. The first thing
that we notice is to change the battery. The battery may have gone flat,
and you might not have heard the indicated tones. So, to change the
battery, you need to open up the battery door. Peel the sticker off the new
battery, and put it with the right way into the battery door. The battery
should close nice and easily.
If that doesn’t start the hearing aid working, the second thing to look at
is to make sure the sound ball, the part that goes in your ear, hasn’t
gotten blocked with wax. With this one, you can push it against a tissue
two or three times, and that will take any wax out of it. With this style
of hearing aid, you need to replace the little white plug. With this style
of hearing aid, you can use a cleaning tool just to dig in the sound ball.
If those two things don’t work, the next step is to make an appointment
with your audiologist so they can investigate what’s going on. There are a
number of other instructional videos on our website. Thank you for
