Hearing Aids – How Do I Keep My Hearing Aid Clean?
- what parts often get dirty,
- what tools you need to use and
- how you can use them to clean the hearing aid.
We hope that by watching this you get continued clarity of sound from your hearing aid.
important to keep it clean. Every day when you take the hearing aid out of
your ear you should wipe the whole hearing aid with a tissue. Give it a
visual inspection to make sure there’s no wax or it’s not cracked or broken
in anyway. In the sound bore you need to make sure there’s no wax blocking that,
because you won’t hear anything from the hearing aid. You can use one of
the cleaning tools that came with your kit to take any wax that may be out
of there or to brush the face of the hearing aid. With the behind the ear
instrument, you can see that it fits right in there to keep it clean. Every
day just check to make sure there’s no wax in there. This is an in the ear instrument, and you can see there’s a little white
plug in there. That plug is designed to stop the wax getting caught against
the electronics of the hearing aid. If that little plug gets blocked up,
you won’t hear anything from the hearing aid, so you need to look to make
sure that there’s nothing blocking it.You can replace this white plug with the tools that are in your kit. On
this tool you can see there’s a part with a little prong on it and a part
with a white plug. Use the prong to take the old plug out, and then turn
the tool around and you can put a new plug on there and that should fix the
problem. You may also notice your hearing aid has a blue or a red ring around it.
This is another way of stopping the wax getting in your hearing aid. Every
day when you take the hearing aid out, push this little blue ring down a
piece of paper and drag it across two or three times and that will take the
wax out of this little plug.If you’re unsure of any of this or you are having trouble, please contact
your audiologist. There are a number of other instructional videos on our
website. Thank you for watching.
